“Comic Sans for Cancer” is an upcoming exhibition, which aims to turn the worlds most dividing typeface into a source for good to support Cancer Research UK.

No font has caused as much division as Comic Sans, between people campaigning to take it down and others screen printing Helvetica on ironic t-shirts it certainly has attracted the attention of designers and artists from around the world, and now people can put that love or hate to a good cause.

The brief was simple, express your feelings about comic sans in a A3 poster. Which prompted the question, how do I feel about comic sans? I couldn’t say I either despise or love it, it has it’s place in the world even if that place is being a public pariah. And strangely enough, I enjoy ‘being confused’ by Comic Sans. It’s ‘unresting’ place on designers screens is a constant reminder of the power of typography, and how it can divide or bring people together.

My poster expresses my confused emotions for Comic Sans. a single ampersand distorted into a scribble. And a simple message “Dear Comic Sans, please keep confusing my emotions for you”

I’m pleased to say our submission will form part of the exhibition, and look forward to seeing how well the event does, with already over 500 submissions from 35 different countries. I’m sure they’ll manage to raise a brilliant amount for Charity.

The event is curated by Chris Flack, Renee Quigley and Jenny Theolin. Well done for such a great idea.
