Following on from the pop up shops that are appearing all over London in the wake of the recession, the trend has now reached cafés and bars.

A new pop up café has opened in Battersea called ‘The Doodle Bar’ which encourages its patrons to draw or ‘doodle’ on the walls, furniture and even the staff! And as everything has been white washed (not the staff obviously) then you can go as crazy as you like!

A funky mural of the River Thames, created by illustrator Serge Seidlitz and German illustrator Thomas Manig, adorns the walls with customers encouraged to help create ‘a collage of Londoners’ hopes and fears’.

An exciting programme of events is planned and the café will be hosting exhibitions, classes and workshops throughout summer 2009. Vivienne Westwood intends to hold monthly film screenings at the venue, while digital group Onedotzero will help to run a programme of drawing and educational workshops.

So if you fancy releasing your inner doodler, then get yourself down to the Doodle Bar.
