Design junkies will be thrilled. Pantone has announced “Radiant Orchid” as colour of the year for 2014, succeeding 2013′s colour Emerald.

Executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute Leatrice Eiseman said that the colour of 2014 is “an invitation to innovation” that “encourages expanded creativity and originality. Radiant Orchid blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eyes and sparks the imagination.”

Designers like Max Mara, Marc Jacobs, Salvatore Ferragamo are way ahead of the game and have been incorporating orchid hues into their collections for the past year.

Pantone officials picked “Radiant Orchid” based on extensive interviews with industrial and fashion designers worldwide about what colours they plan to use in upcoming seasons as well as sales of “colour swatches,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

So here’s wishing all of you a Radiant Orchid 2014 and keep your eyes peeled to see where we might use this next colour craze in the year ahead!
