On Wednesday night in the lively Proud Bar in Camden, the 2015 Chip Shop Awards took place, and our talented Designer Will Meighan took centre stage winning his very own Chip Trophy.
Hosted annually by The Drum, The Chip Shop Awards celebrate creativity in all its guises, regardless of how controversial and non-PC it is.
Will, our Moving Image Designer, was entered into the bluntly named “Ad Most Likely To Get The Chip Shop Awards In Sh!t Creek” category. Taking inspiration from the wildly successful Apple campaign ‘Shot on iPhone 6’, and the disturbing shootings of US citizens by American police forces, the submission straddled a knife edge of taste and political statement. Clearly the underlying message of pervasive technology in our lives that allows moments, both good and bad, to be captured at any time was recognised by the judges, and Will was awarded a winning Chip Trophy for his efforts.
The Chip Shop Awards are a breath of fresh air in the design world, allowing creatives to explore avenues and approaches that may normally get shot down, allowing teams to blow off steam and have a good time, as well as a chance to practice thinking outside the box without limitations. This year included numerous winners who utilised video to great effect, which we see as a reflection on the importance of video in brand and communications going forward. It was a fantastic night overall, and we hope to be there once again in 2016!
